This Logitech joystick not only impresses with lots of features at a more affordable price. I'm giving up on the Thrustmaster Flight Control System mk 1 for Freespace but I will use it with USNF97 on a Pentium III box I'm building for Windows 9x games. But back to the Logitech Gaming sticks Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. FS2's keybinding screen just won't recognize button presses, even though Knossos recognizes the joystick, and the joystick appears fine in the Gamepads/Joysticks control panel in Windows. Works really well with FS2020, every single button, hat switch, toggle, and slider works.

I consider myself super lucky to have found another joystick at the same thrift store, the Precision Pro with the USB adapter which I would have assumed would have been lost a long time ago by the original owner. Bonus: comes with graphical upgrades, campaigns. If you already have FS2 from GOG, you'll need FS2 Open to have it work on modern systems. I guess my best option is to pirate an original CD copy of FreeSpace 2? I could give that a shot. You're usually limited to max 2 or 4 buttons depending on the device, with no support for hats, throttles and the like.Īll those features would be great with FreeSpace 2, which requires a BUNCH of controls.
This thing is supposed to be the best option for converting generic game port devices to USB, but even then, it doesn't work that great based on reviews I've read and watched. I can't get the gamepad port to work in Windows 7, but I can get the sound portion of the card working with the kx Project third party drivers. These are the oldest video cards I own, and this C2Q box doesn't have an AGP slot anyway, so I don't think I can go all that much older unless I want to go with a PCI card.

Despite the fact that there are working drivers for both for XP. But I can't get my GOG version of FreeSpace 2 to work in XP because the game recognizes neither my Nvidia GeForce GT 210 nor my ATi HD 2600 XT.

I picked up a free Sound Blaster Live! Value from Craigslist, and it works with the flight stick in Windows XP. It may not work properly due to differences, but hopefully both the the 3DP+ and PrP use the same signals over the gameport. This (sorry for the YouTube link, it's all I've run across) is for the Precision Pro. It's quite hacky, but I think it's the only way to actually make this work short of going back to XP.

The official converter, which only shipped in the box, is for the Precision Pro series, and I think how it works is as a pure physical adapter, with the USB circuitry in the joystick itself.Īpparently there is a solution, but it involves custom drivers to basically make the gameport work, then make the stick work (this series of joysticks apparently didn't act like a normal gameport joystick). If your joystick needs drivers, it probably won't work with a converter. The USB converters don't give you a gameport per se (no gameport shows up in Device Manager AFAIK), they internally convert the joystick to a USB HID game controller and present that to the OS. no drivers from the manufacturer needed), and MS removed gameport support in Vista. The gameport was directly driven by Windows itself (e.g. The joystick itself may need drivers too though - gameport plug doesn't necessarily mean it'll just work when plugged into a gameport unfortunately.Īs far as I can tell from a quick search, it doesn't matter if the Audigy has Win10 drivers (and those drivers appear to be third party and no longer actively developed, Creative appears to have stopped support for them at Win7), Win10 itself doesn't support the gameport at all.
